Ann Garrigan Hoefle was born in Galva, Illinois on November 8, 1924. Her father was Stanley Garrigan, a businessman, and her mother was Emma Peterson. Ann passed away on September 23, 2011. Ann grew up in Galva, a town of 2,400 people. Everyone in the town knew each other and since Ann’s parents were from large families, Ann had relatives all over town. As a child she could roam the town, go see neighbors and relatives and even spend time at her father’s business. This upbringing was precious to Ann and helped form her into a friendly, happy, social person. Ann met her husband, Milt Hoefle, on her first day of college at the University of Illinois. He was a dignified senior and she was a confused freshman. Milt and Ann were married in Cambridge, Massachusetts on February 18, 1945. While Milt continued his service as a Lt. jg radar officer in the U.S. Naval Air Force, Ann returned to the University of Illinois where she received her Bachelor of Science in 1947. Because both Milt and Ann were only children, they hoped for a large family and were blessed with 5 children. Ann was very happy to be a stay at home mother. She also enjoyed being active in the community and was involved in many organizations. She served on the PTO Legislative Committee; she was a deaconess at the Congregational Church. She was a member of the Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Committee. She was on the Michigan Selective Service Board and she served on the Washtenaw County Board of Canvassers. She was active in the Republican Party, loved the Garfinkles and belonged to the U of M Club of Ann Arbor, the AAUW and Ann Arbor Golfing and Outing. Milt and Ann loved to play bridge, to travel and to spend time with their family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Milt of 66 years, and her children, Sheryl of Wilmington, NC, Brian (Barbara) of Prescott, AZ, Patricia of Lexington, KY, Gary of Durham, NC. Her daughter, Diane passed away in 2008. Her wonderful grandchildren are Jennifer Hoefle of Tucson, AZ, Scott Hoefle of Flagstaff, AZ and Andrew Peck of Seattle, WA. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 7, 2011 from 5-8pm at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Ann Arbor. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, at 2:00 at the First Congregational Church, 608 E. William St., Ann Arbor. A private burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the First Congregational Church, 211 N.W. Third St., Galva, IL 61434. www.muehligannarbor.com
