Artell Tucker

Artell “Art” Tucker, age 91, of Ypsilanti, Michigan, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on January 13, 2026. Born in Magnolia, Arkansas, on March 15, 1934, to Jacob and Angeline Tucker, Art was raised in Muskegon Heights, Michigan, where he graduated from Muskegon Heights High School.

Art enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1954 and proudly served his country, earning both the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his service, he worked as a foreman at Chrysler Motor Company. Upon his retirement, Art’s strong work ethic continued as he contributed to Irwin Magnetic and later brought smiles to many as a greeter at Meijer’s on Carpenter Road in Ypsilanti.

Art was known for his distinctive, infectious laugh—a sound that could light up any room and bring joy to those around him. An outgoing and friendly man, Art deeply loved his family—his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Always ready with a piece of advice, whether solicited or not, his wisdom touched many lives.

Art married Dorothy Evelyn Jones on May 25, 1985, with whom he shared 41 loving years. To this union there was one child, Akiba Tucker. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy, his parents, Jacob and Angeline; brothers Amzie, B.J., Rodell, Houston, Jacob, Andrew, Franklin, and Judson Tucker; and sisters Iola Glover, Lula Harris, and Emma Briggs.

Art is survived by his first wife, Mary Connors; son William (Brenda) Tucker; daughters Sabrina (Donald) Starks and Akiba Tucker; LaDeedra (Darnell) Connors-Taylor; stepdaughter Crystal (Keith) Jones-Wilson; and stepson Michael Jones. He is also fondly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends.

Art loved bowling and never missed an opportunity to talk with anyone who crossed his path. His warmth, kindness, and good humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Truly, he was one of the good guys. We love you and miss you, Dad.

Services for Artell Tucker are on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Brown Chapel AME Church located at Address: 1043 W Michigan Ave, Ypsilanti, MI 48197.
