

1933 - 2020
age 87, died peacefully of natural causes in the presence of his wife and family at his
side, on November 21st, 2020 at their home in Ann Arbor, MI.
He was born and raised in the city of Ann Arbor, graduating from Ann Arbor High
School (currently known as Pioneer) and received his Associates from Wayne State
University.
Bernard was a armed forces veteran, serving in the United States Army, two plus of
those years stationed in Germany, before being honorably discharged in 1956.
He had a long and distinguished thirty-two career with the Michigan Consolidated Gas
& Energy company (now Detroit Edison “DTE”) prior to his retirement in 1995.
Besides spending time with his family and friends, Bernard had a passion for reading
fiction novels, traveling by car with his wife visiting markets and boutique shops, and
watching sporting events on television.
Bernard’s talents were many, he was an accomplished vocalist, using his Tenor voice
to bring happiness and inspiration to so many people of all ages while singing in the
church choir as a member of The First Congregational Church and Our Own Thing
Chorale.
He was always an advocator of the arts, introducing many styles and genres of music
to his family, inspiring them to sing and to learn to play multiple musical instruments.
Bernard had a quiet soul, and a gentle heart that touched many in his community .
He is preceded in death by his parents Catherlen and James Patterson, a brother, and
two sisters.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his adoring eternal wife of 55 years,
Annie Doris “Dot” Patterson; children Fleur Singleton and Bernard Patterson II; his
seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and four siblings.
The family wishes to thank Muehlig Funeral Chapel of Ann Arbor for its thoughtful
services and tender care. In recognition of the current health climate, the family is
foregoing a public viewing and will hold a private service. In lieu of flowers, if desired,
