

Betty Grace Reinhart was born July 17, 1924 in Washington, Pennsylvania to George and Grace Vennum, the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Washington High School and continued her education at the University of Denver, Colorado.
After marriage to Dr. Charles Behrens and the conclusion of WW II, they moved to Waterloo, Iowa. She became an interior designer, Sunday school teacher, was active in her choir and became a popular Girl Scout and Brownie troop leader. A wonderful mother to Becky Rice of Berkeley, CA. Grandchildren Abraham ( Lindsey), Emily (James), Rachel, Alexander (Madie) and four great-grandchildren and daughter Anne Sha (Les) of Stilwell, KS. Grandchildren Madison and Lily.
Betty participated actively in community work throughout her life. She was a member of PEO for over 65 years and served as president in Waterloo, Iowa and Ann Arbor. Betty was president of the Dental Auxillary in Waterloo, and was also president of the Ann Arbor National Farm and Garden. Betty held various positions with Margaret Waterman Alumnae Association, the Thrift Shop, the Festival 400 Summer Festival. In addition, she was on the advisory board of the U of M Theater Group and the St. Joseph's Ball Committee.
Betty enjoyed entertaining friends on many occasions. A personal highlight was hosting Martha Stewart when she came to Ann Arbor on her speaking tour.
Betty married Charles Reinhart in 1982 and they traveled extensively world wide in their time together, while living in their Ann Arbor and Fort Myers, Florida homes.
With the daughters from her first family, she is also survived by children Leslie Shape (John), Janet Brown (Steve), Peggy Balzhiser (Gary) and Sally (John) with 9 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren.
Betty was a superb gardener, especially with her beautiful roses. She enjoyed sports of all kinds, notably U of M football and basketball and Tiger baseball. Friends will agree she had a PhD in shopping and a wonderful zest for life.
She has received thoughtful and skilled long-term care at Glacier Hills. A service reflecting her life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, 1432 Washtenaw Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48104 on May 16, 2015 at 11 AM.
