Bonnie Hansen

Bonnie passed away with her family at her side on January 19, 2018. She was born in Montier, Missouri on August 12, 1939 the daughter of Claude and Sylvia Nicholson. Bonnie was a graduate of Ann Arbor High School in 1957. She married Gerald F. Hansen on November 24, 1956 in Ann Arbor, Michigan where they raised 5 children together. Bonnie attended Washtenaw Community College and after graduating with her nursing degree she became the director of nursing at Whitehall Convalescent Home in Ann Arbor. She also worked as an RN at the VA Hospital. After a short retirement she returned to help others as a nurse at the Whitmore Lake Retirement Home until retiring for good to enjoy her family. She took countless vacations to Drummond Island with her family over her life beginning in the 1950’s and was still reeling them in this past October. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Sylvia, her loving husband, Gerald, and grandson, Derek Lund. She is survived by 5 children; Cindy (Walter) Happy, Roberta Jahn, Gerald (Tracy Valentine) Hansen, Jr., Mark (Marie Root) Hansen, and Julie Hansen, grandchildren; Christian (Lydia) Happy, Matthew (Stephanie) Northrup, Brittany (Justin) Sparkman, Nichole Lund, Jacob Happy, and Travis Abrahams, great grandchildren; Ben and Henry Northrup, and Isabelle Sparkman. She is also survived by her sister, Maxine Harrison, brothers; Ray (Briggit) Nicholson, and Roy (Dee) Nicholson, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bonnie will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. Honoring her wishes there will be a brief graveside service at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Bethlehem Cemetery (2801 Jackson Ave., Ann Arbor) where she will be united with her loving husband Gerald. A luncheon will follow at the Dexter VFW Hall (8225 Dexter-Chelsea Rd). In lieu of Flowers please make donations to the University of Michigan Neurological Intensive Care Unit.
