We are sorry to announce the death of David Charles Hills on April 29, from complications of heart surgery. David was born on September 6, 1953 in Ann Arbor, MI. He graduated from Ann Arbor Huron High School in 1971 and from Western Michigan University in 1975 with his BS in Biological Sciences/Chemistry. David received his MBA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 2000, and started his career as a chemist and laboratory manager. He worked for Hazelton Labs in Illinois and Wisconsin before becoming part owner of HES, Inc, an independent contract research lab. David also worked for Rockwell automation before retiring to enjoy his favorite pastimes of bike rides, skiing, and beer tasting. David was a proud member of the Madison Homebrewers and Tasters Guild. He and his friends would often travel to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the Traverse City area to visit breweries. David loved to ski, and he went on countless ski adventures with his Uncle Jack Tomion in Colorado. He was deeply interested in genealogy and loved researching Tomions’ and Hills’ family history.
He was predeceased by his parents, Virginia (Tomion) Hills and Charles Walter Hills, and his brother, Robert Gordon Hills.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 26 at noon at the First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor, 120 S State St, with Rev. Nancy Lynn officiating. His ashes will be placed near his parents’ and brother’s ashes in the Memorial garden at the church.
David is survived by his 8 cousins, his good friend Bruce Vande Zande, and many other Madison and Ann Arbor friends.
