

Dorothy M. Niemann, 84, formerly of Ann Arbor, died of natural causes in her home on Monday, June 20th in Davenport, FL. “Dottie,” as she was known to family and friends, resided most of her life in Ann Arbor. She was born to Brooks and Helen Rice on June 20, 1932, the youngest of three children. She is a graduate of Pioneer High School, and received a B.A. in English from Eastern Michigan University. She married John Niemann on September 10th, 1955, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, and they raised four children in Ann Arbor until a move to Grand Rapids in 1974. They returned to this area, residing in Ypsilanti in 1984 until relocating to Davenport, Florida in 1991. Dottie was very active with her Gourmet Group as well as a participant in many church activities. After the passing of her husband, John, to Alzheimer’s in 1996, Dottie became a world traveler and led an adventurous life including zip lining, hot air ballooning, and sea cruises. She was also active in her community politics and volunteered at her church’s thrift store and was an avid reader. She is survived by her four children: Michael (Jayne) Niemann of Lowell, MI; Nancy (Richard) McCarthy of Leesburg, VA; Jennifer (Dr. Steve) Tozer of Roscommon, MI; Peter (Sarah) Niemann of Hudsonville, Mi. Dottie was a loving Grandmother to six grandchildren; Jon, Katie, Patrick, Nic, Max and Anna. Visitation is Thursday, June 23rd from 4:00-8:00p.m. at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Ann Arbor. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 24, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, with a visitation at 9:00. Interment will follow at St. Thomas Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or charity of your choice.
