Edna was born on November 7, 1923 in Madison, Wisconsin to her parents Gertrude Brown and Henry Griffin. She attended Kindergarten in Baldwin, MI and upon relocation to Ann Arbor, Edna attended and graduated in 1942 from Ann Arbor High School which has since been renamed Pioneer.
On February 26, 1946, Edna entered into holy matrimony with Jerry Bridges. They were the proud parents of 3 sons and 1 daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents and sons Will E. Scott (Scotty) and Jerry Bridges, Jr.
She would often proudly speak of being a part of 5 generations not once but 3 times.
Edna’s professional career began with The University of Michigan, working in the bottle room. She later became employed with Sears Roebuck and Company retiring after 12 years of service.
Edna accepted Christ at an early age.
In 1945, she became a faithful and lifelong member of the Second Baptist Church in Ann Arbor, MI under the pastorate of Reverend C.L. Carpenter, Reverend E.L. Green, Reverend Mark J. Lyons and Pastor Steven J. Daniels, Sr. For many years she enthusiastically served as a Sunday School Teacher, on the Missionary Board and sang in the Chancel choir, which she truly enjoyed. She maintained an unwavering faith in Christ until her passing. Her light shined bright. She always thought of others before herself. She loved life, her family and especially her Lord.
Edna was a wonderfully devoted wife of 71 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Jerry C. Bridges, Sr. of Dexter, MI., son Kenneth (Alice) Bridges of Ann Arbor, daughter Paula Bridges of Dexter, MI., daughter-in-law Brenda Scott Savage of Missouri City, Texas, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren, sister-in-law Cleo Wiggins of Detroit, MI., a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends Reverend Charles and Luanna Slay, Deacon John and Geneva Hardin both of Ann Arbor, MI., Deborah Griffin of Mt Clemons, MI. and Marvin and Sherrill Fischer of Somerset Center, MI.
A wake will be at Muehlig Funeral Chapel (403 South Fourth Ave., Ann Arbor) on Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 3-7 p.m. Family hour will be Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor (850 Red Oak) at 10 a.m. followed by a Home Going Service at 11 a.m. Edna will be laid to rest at United Memorial Gardens.
