The world lost a beautiful person when Erika Lindsay Hunter of Canton, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of light, love, and inspiration far beyond her years. Born on March 1, 1979 to Therman Hunter and Clarissa Hunter England, Erika was a radiant presence whose beauty, intelligence, magnetic spirit and infectious laughter brought warmth and love to everyone she met.
Erika loved her family, immediate and extended. She and her brothers, Ryan and Dane, enjoyed very close relationships that would frequently include long conversations about music and movies as well as real-life events, comedic and/or dramatic. Her memory was incredible; she could recall long-ago occurrences that were mostly forgotten by others, share her recollections, then explain the lessons or the laughter to be gained and/or enjoyed. A result of this knack or talent, were special relationships with each of her cousins, particularly the “add-on siblings” Andrew, Kristina and Shannon, children of Aunt Val. She truly enjoyed her time with her family and friends so much so that, during the most recent holiday season, Erika treated her family to an unforgettable Thanksgiving feast that she insisted on planning and preparing. It was an absolutely magnificent meal filled with love and laughter. All activities included one of her best friends, Nigel (Ni Ni), the King of Miniature Schnauzers and very spoiled/loved pet.
She was a graduate of Michigan State University (and a proud Spartan) with a Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising Management. She continued her education at Eastern Michigan University where she obtained a master’s degree in the field of architecture/interior design - an achievement that reflected her lifelong passion for creativity and design. She was artistically imaginative and loved to design aesthetically pleasing and serene settings at her home or wherever she could be free to do the same for others. She enjoyed travel and looked forward to her next adventure. She was a talented award-winning flute player. She completed her first marathon in 2012 and was looking forward to competing in a family mud-run with her brothers and cousins.
Erika was a born again believer in Christ since childhood; her Christian faith brought her peace and purpose in life. John 3:16 speaks to the promise of salvation and everlasting life for the entire world, and it is that promise of salvation that reassures us all that she is enjoying that wonderful everlasting life. Erika embraced God’s light and healing and led a life to reflect that. She was a giving, loving daughter, sister, and friend while also serving as an inspiration to many others looking forward to the next level of achievement.
Erika leaves to cherish her precious memory, father Therman Hunter, mother Clarissa England, Stepfather Tony England, brothers Ryan and Dane (Jade and Israel) Hunter, sister-by-heart Carmen Carmichael, cousin Andrew Petersen, Aunts Val Petersen and Rose Hunter, Uncles Frank, Kennith, and Vincent Motley, bestie Ni Ni, a host of cousins and friends - all of whom will miss her dearly and forever.
A visitation will be held Saturday, February 14, from 10:00am to 12:00 pm, with a viewing from 10:00 am till 11:00 am at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S. 4th Avenue, Ann Arbor. A funeral service will take place at 12:00 pm, followed by interment at Arborcrest Memorial Park, 2521 Glazier Way, Ann Arbor.
