Exie was born on July 17, 1945, in Raleigh, North Carolina, to the late Charlie and Margaret (Umstead) Robinson. After graduating from high school, she continued her education at Butler University, where she earned a degree in Anthropology.
Exie met Theodore Goodson, Jr., and the two were united in marriage and enjoyed a long and lovely life together for 65 years. Shortly thereafter, they made their home in Indianapolis, where Exie devoted herself to raising her family. She was a passionate Indiana football fan and a dedicated member of several Catholic parishes throughout the years.
Being an avid reader, Exie had a deep love for anthropology, Black American culture, and religious theology. She enjoyed classic films, listening to music—especially artists such as Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston, and The Supremes. Her greatest enjoyment was visiting family and friends in Raleigh, NC and going to the different beaches. Wise, loving, and always supportive, Exie was a constant source of encouragement to her six children.
Exie is survived by her beloved husband, Theodore Goodson, Jr.; her children, Norman Goodson, Allyson (George) Olk, Paul Goodson, Exie Goodson, Theodore (Stephanie) Goodson, and John Goodson; her grandchildren, David Jr. Riley, Exie Adams, Chase Riley, Imani Riley, Theodore Goodson IV, Elizabeth Goodson, and Sean Goodson; and her sister Barbara (Terry) Wellington, brother Charlie (Carolyn) Robinson, brother Oscar Timothy Robinson; nieces Pamela Hedgepeth, Sonia (Mark) Solomon, nephews Edwin Eugene Sutton; great-nephews David (Christine) Hedgepeth, Matthew Solomon and a host of dear family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Douglas Robinson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday January 24, 2026 at 11 am at Saint Francis Catholic Church, 2250 E Stadium Blvd, with Father Shamus Kettner presiding. Exie will lie in state one hour prior to Mass. Burial will take place at a later date at Forest Hill Cemetery.
