Fred Edward Shepherd

Shepherd, Fred Edward of Ann Arbor, Michigan was called to heaven on the Lords day of rest, Sunday, July 12, 2015, he was 85 years old. Fred was born in Memphis, Tennessee on December 23, 1929 the son of Willie and Elsie Shepherd. Fred worked for the City of Ann Arbor for many years and upon retirement, Fred enjoyed traveling the world as he never met a stranger. He was a member of Bethel AME Church of Ann Arbor, where he loved his church and Pastor Cousin. Fred, who was known as the “Picture Man” loved taking pictures of family and friends and the things going on around him. A comical and jovial man, Fred was always very happy and spread joy to whomever he was around. Fred was also very giving to others over the years, and was always ready to help those in need, in fact the day after he was called home to be with the Lord it was discovered that Fred gave his own grave away. He will be truly missed for his broad smile and warm and caring way. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister; George Shepherd and Mattie Shepherd and a daughter; Donna Shepherd. Fred leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife; Samantha Welch, children; Kenneth (Leslie) Shepherd, and Angela Shepherd, grandson; Kenneth (Isabell) Baker, Jr., step-children; Salieta Jenkins, Edward Welch, Eric (Mary) Welch, and, Thysadenia (Richard) Burgens, step-grandchildren; Tera (Shantez) Wade, Lawrence (Nichole) Yates, Richai Burgens, James Smith, Athena (Kip) Johnson, Shonda Welch, Ebony Welch, Edward Welch, III, Eric Welch and Edward Welch and a host of other relatives and many special friends. A Home Going Service will be Monday, July 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with family hour from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the Bethel AME Church (900 John A Woods Dr.) Fred will be laid to rest at United Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
