

Genell was born on December 25, 1927, in Winnsboro, South Carolina, to the late John and Eunice Ginyard. She spent her childhood and many formative years in Winnsboro before relocating to Ann Arbor in November of 1955, where she would build a full and meaningful life. Genell retired from First Martin Corporation after many years of dedicated service.
Genell was a strong, independent, and deeply loved woman. She was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor for over 30 years, where she served on the Board of Ushers, the Easter Sunday Breakfast Committee, and was an active member of the Progressive Club. In her quieter moments, Genell found great joy in gardening and took special pride in caring for the flowers in her outdoor garden.
Genell is survived by her five children: Daisy (Larry) Vaughn, Larry (Linda) Guinyard, Denise Henderson, Sherri Henderson, and Michelle Henderson; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also lovingly remembered by her devoted sisters, Alice Martin and Mildred Gillespie; her dear brother, David Ginyard; and a host of extended family members and friends whose lives were blessed by her presence.
Genell was preceded in death by her brothers, Henry Ginyard and John Ginyard, as well as her great-grandchild, Jayanna Caldwell.
Visitation for Genell will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, located at 403 South Fourth Ave, Ann Arbor, Michigan. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at 11:00 am, with family hour beginning at 10:00 am, at Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor, located at 850 Red Oak Rd, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Genell will be laid to rest at United Memorial Gardens, Plymouth, Michigan, following the service.
