

James was born on December 15, 1929, in Denham, Indiana to Stanislaus and Mary King Ostaszewski. He graduated from Washington High School in East Chicago and volunteered for the Air Force during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from Indiana Technical College. James worked for Philco Corporation in Philadelphia and Ford Motor Company in southeast Michigan over a 33-year career which followed the birth and growth of the information technology age. He worked in color television design, custom software development and telecommunications network design.
Following his retirement, he was active at Kiwanis International in Ann Arbor, where he enjoyed repairing electronics at their thrift shop. He was an avid golfer, bowler and chess player throughout his life, enjoyed watching NFL games and listening to many genres of music. He shared his passions for sports and the arts with his family and friends. James was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, a helpful neighbor and a cheerful friend.
A lifelong Catholic, James was certain of his salvation and believed in the promise of his Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. He was a member of St Francis of Assisi parish in Ann Arbor.
James is survived by his daughter Victoria Heinecke (Jonathan) and his son Christopher (Judy) King; grandchildren Lisa, Paul, and Alexander Heinecke; brother Victor Ostaszewski (Eleanor); sister-in-law Patricia Edwards (Robert); brother-in-law Jack Pawlicki along with many nieces, nephews and their families. He is also remembered with love by the family of his late second wife, June.
In addition to Joanna and his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister Frances Wolfe, brothers Theodore and Casimir Ostaszewski, and brothers Henry and Arthur King.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 S 4th Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Funeral will be held Saturday, September 6, at 11:00 am at Kuiper Funeral Home, 9039 Kleinman Road, Highland, Indiana. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 2701 Willowdale Road, Portage, Indiana.
