






what a wonder-full lady, I met John and Jeff at Waterloo Hunt

My mom, Danne Hackbarth and I, catered many parties at Jeff and John's house back in the 60's and 70's:  baseball parties; football brunches; after-football game dinners; cocktail parties; and the breakfast ride parties at the Waterloo Hunt Club.  They were always fun parties to cater.  I remember a family brunch at Mother Hunter's house that I catered for Connie's post-wedding celebration, and Jacques in the kitchen helping us.  He loved the marshmallow drop cookies we made, and named them "Marshmallow Delight's," which we still call them today.  The Hunter's always had Bill the Bartender, Hoyt & Charles, who we always worked very well with.  I remember a drink called "Mother's Milk" that they were trying to explain to Mother Hunter, and her just shaking her head, and throwing up her hands.  They all just laughed. I also wanted to mention their Great Dane, who was always in the mix of things.  A great dog that was always there to greet us at the back door.  I really miss those days.   Jeff was always the life of the party.  Jeff and John Hunter were great people to work for.  She will be missed.

I spent a delightful evening with John and Jeff recalling the former's memories of the 1935 mammoth project of moving the mance of Harry B. Earhart, John's uncle, to its present spot on Laurin Heights.  The stately home is within view out the kitchen window of the present Hunter home.  The large three-story house was offered to the senior Hunter by Mr. Earhart and became John's childhood home.  Moving the house from point A to point B, across a gully on bridge-work, proved challenging (see photo).  During the slow trip, the home was once raised 18-feet in the air to remain level.  Despite this occurring before John and Jeff met, she stood in the kitchen listening while John and I talked in the family room and interrupted when she felt the facts were not right!  John and Jeff Hunter- a wonderful couple with class and grace.

Lauren, Connie and family: Muzzy will always be remembered as wild and wonderful woman. Her smile and energy when she was with our family made for fabulous memories. We especially loved our vacation with her to Atlantis. And it was a special treat to visit her beloved Ann Arbor home. So glad she got to know beautiful Bella. She will be missed. Jeff was indeed, a jewel for our family as it was she and John who introduced my parents (the Denhams) and provide great friendship for many years.  I especially remember the countless hours spent at the Hunter "swim club" in the 50's and 60's.  As a boy, I felt so lucky to have friends like the Hunters, and Jeff was clearly the swizzle stick.  Thank you.

My acquaintance with Jeff was far too brief, but she made such an impression on me and my husband, who fell in love with her at a Farm & Garden dinner. She was elegant, down-to-earth, and such fun to talk with. Our condolences to Connie and the family. Jeff will be fondly remembered.

Jeff, was one of my very first new friends at Farm & Garden way back when.  That was just the start of a wonderful friendship & a shared love of both F&G, AA Thrift Shop, & many other things.  I also looked up to Jeff as a role model. She was a very smart, kind, interesting & always  FUN person to be around. I, too, will miss her & will always remember her with a smile on her face. Positive thoughts are going out to Connie & John and all their family.  Yes, our Jeff, was truly a Jewel!

Jeff and Johnny were like second parents to me from the time I was a little girl and throughout the years.  Jeff's exhuberance and boundless energy were only matched by her unfailing kindness and thoughtfulness to not only her army of friends but to those she sensed needed a little extra dose of friendship.  She was truly one of a kind, and I will be forever grateful that I was able to experience her very special brand of love.  Jack and I send our love and support to Connie and John and Lauren.

I just love the picture of Jeff that accompanied her obituary. I think she would like to be remembered just that way. Farewell to a wonderful lady.

I am so glad I got to know Muzzy in the last two years. What a special person. She will be missed!

Jeff was a wonderful friend and mentor to me and I know she will be missed by everyone who knew and loved her. I carry fond memories of our times together and will keep Jeff in my heart and my prayers.

What a pleasure to have known and enjoyed the company of Muzzy! She was so darling, full of wit, laughs and bringing good times to all around her. I'll always remember her kind, genuine words and offers to help my children. What a bright lady, she will be missed by all of the Contursi family!

Jeff was one of the most enthusiastic and charismatic people i have ever known.  Whenever we saw her she was always doing something interesting with tremendous verve.  One of my favorite childhood memories was spending summer days at the Hunter pool and talking with Jock.  You had to be a brave woman to allow all the Dobson cousins to swim in your pool, but Jeff seemed to take it in stride.  I was  looking forward to seeing her at Christmas again this year and I am so sorry that I won't.  I will really miss her.  All of the extended Welch Family will.

Jeff was a great friend of the Welch family, and one of the nicest people I ever met.  We'll all miss her.

We were so sorry to learn of the death of your beloved mother, Jeff. It was a privilege to know your mother through Thrift Shop for many years.We sure had fun!
