Innes, Joan Badgley 3/16/1929 - 11/16/2017 Ann Arbor Joan Badgley Innes died on Thursday, November 16, 2017. She was born here in Ann Arbor on March 16,1929 to Florence Chandler and Dr. Carl Egbert Badgley. Her beloved younger sister, Jane Badgley Murray Smith predeceased her. The family, including her cousin Jay Badgley, spent long summers at Glen Lake and Lake Leelanau, often staying through the first frost. She and her father kept horses at Huron Stables (now Racquet Club of Ann Arbor), often riding from there to the family home on Hill St. She was educated at the Baldwin School and the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelors degree in French with a Teaching Certificate, and pledging Delta Gamma Sorority, where she made many dear friends. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Perry Innes and their children, Sarah (Tim Lock), Jay, Claire and Cameron (Dee Dee) and grandchildren: Duncan, Jeffrey, Miles, Max, Carl and Kyle. Joan was the longest-serving member of the Ladies Library Association having been nominated in 1958. She was a Friend of the U of M Museum of Art and cultivated "town and gown" relationships and audited classes. Through her many pursuits she always made new friends and cherished the old. She loved golfing, which she took up at age fifty, and played the piano her entire life. Joan's dogs: Ike, Carlo, Sigmund, Malcolm and Egbert meant a lot to her. She was proud of her service at the Senior Housing Bureau. Her life was enhanced by her book group and classes at Osher Senior Living, leading a current events group until mid-September, happily surprised that something she so enjoyed had come along late in life. On her last evening she sent her daughter out for "The Last Barsten Chronicle"by Anthony Trollope, the only book of the Barchester Chronicles she never read. The memorial service for Joan is Friday, November 24 at 1:30 pm at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. The family is grateful to Arbor Hospice for their care.
