Mom is now in such a better place, a place with out any pain or suffering.She lived to be 102 years old, that in itself makes her special. She had a very special type of love for her children and a different relationship with each one of us.  She enjoyed her life right up till recently when she was diagnosed with heart failure at the end of August.  She was then admitted into the hospital for two days.  When she came home she was in the care of Hospice and family for eight weeks when Hospice decided to bring her into their facility to manage her pain and symptoms.  She was only their two days when she passed on.  All of us kids loved her very much and will miss her dearly.  She is now with the Lord in Heaven and someday we will be reunited with her.

So when someone passes, it makes me think of the history they left behind and how we can honor them and that history in some small way.  

I will probably continue to shovel Katie's sidewalk, no matter what happens in the years to come. I remember moving in next door to her and seeing her walking up and down our block every day!

It was lovely to deliver meals to Mrs. St. Clair. She always had a smile to share. My young daughters were thrilled to meet someone who was over 100 years old, and we will all miss her. Best wishes to her family.

I also delivered meals to Katie, it was a honor to deliver birthday cake to her on her 102 birthday. I told her to save a spot on her dance card for me at her party and she smiled that wonderful smile of hers. She will be missed. Wishing her family well.

I had the opportunity to deliver meals to Katie for many years.  She was a truly delightful lady.  I loved seeing her and wish her family well.  She will be missed.

   Mom..you have been caring for us kids for 102 years. After dad died we started caring for you..

   You have traveled a long road to live to be 102 and there were a lot of bumps along the way...But you persevered through it all...from being badly burned as a 3 year old child and almost dying to marring dad when you were 30, in 1940 and raising 4 children..
   You remember when horses had to share the road with cars.,,:You lived through the great depression when you family had a very hard time..
   You remember the first house you lived in that had electricity  and were so excited you ran from room to room turning  the light switches off and on..

  When Katie was asked what her secret was to have such a long life she would say "Isn't no secret, it just happens"
  When ask how it feels to be 102 years old she would say.."I don't feel 102, I fell like i am about 80"

  She had a spirt the will live long in her children hearts.. I know that she is with the Lord now and with dad who she will be sooo happy to be with once again. They were friends for 70 years and married for 57 years
