

Christened Margaret Jane Clark by her parents, Hedley Arthur Clark II and Rose Mary (McWilliams) Clark, she was born February 28th, 1930 in Baltimore, Maryland. She graduated from Girls’ Latin School in Baltimore, then attended the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. After raising four children, Peggy received her A.B. degree from the University of Michigan in 1987, where she majored in anthropology. She worked at the John Leidy Shop on Liberty Street in Ann Arbor, Michigan, then went on to work in hospital administration at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan for many years.
Peggy met her husband, David. D. Bien, on a blind date to see The Wizard of Oz. They fell in love and were married in Baltimore on July 28, 1951. Their life together took them to Cambridge, Massachusetts, Middletown, Connecticut, Princeton, New Jersey, and Ann Arbor, Michigan, and often to France, where they lived frequently for extended periods, and co-owned an apartment in Paris. David preceded Peggy in death in 2015, after 64 years of marriage.
Peggy had four children, Clark David (Geneviève), Matthew William (Grace Lee), Ellen Jane Karpiuk (Robert), and Alexander John (Karen), as well as eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to their large, close-knit family, Peggy and David’s warm and gracious home was a welcoming and loving place for their large circle of good friends from all generations. Peggy was easily and immediately liked by those who knew her. You felt fortunate to be with her, and that you belonged.
The funeral will take place at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 306 N Division St, Ann Arbor, MI, on Monday, March 10, at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following, Peggy will be laid to rest next to her husband David at Forest Hill Cemetery, 415 Observatory Street, Ann Arbor, MI. There will be a reception after at 2:00 p.m. at Knight’s Steakhouse Downtown, 600 E Liberty St, Ann Arbor, MI.
