Probably the last time I had seen my Aunt Peg and Uncle Dwight was 20ish years ago.  I remember that I was on a ladder painting Aunt Jan and Uncle Bob's cottage on Orr's Island.   I had asked Dwight a question about religion- something like Hey Dwight, what's the difference between a cult and religion?   Dwight talked until I was finished painting the side of the house, and occasionally Peg would come out on the porch with a glass of lemonade and smile and shake her head a little and head back inside.  Dwight laughed when I was done and said that it was a preacher's dream- a captive audience- preaching to a man on a ladder!

This summer my wife and I were driving home to Maine from Iowa, and looking at the map I knew we were not too far away from Ann Arbor.  I was wondering if I should stop by- it had been so long and was not sure how it would gobut I found  Hillside Terrace, a warm and caring facility and we stopped in to visit.  As soon as I walked in Peg's room and saw her my heart melted and I teared up and knew that I had made the right decision.  I held her hand and we talked for about a half an hour- she was so sweet and nice just like I had always known her.  I think that she did remember me for a brief moment during the visit. 

I came home and went to visit Aunt Jan- Peggy's twin sister.  I showed Jan some pictures and arranged a phone call where we had Aunt Jan and Aunt Peg on the phone together!  The phone call was not all that successful, but at least we tried and the twins did speak for a brief time.  

Spood (my Dad and Peggy's older brother) always loved his visits with Peg when she came to Maine over the years.  He would tell me about when the twins would do gymnastics for the people riding the trolley as it passed their home on Dennison Street in Auburn when they were growing up.  

Although I had not seen Peg in a long time I will miss her.
