

Marilyn Opal (Shaw)Crawford passed away at her home in Ann Arbor on Friday, January 30, 2026. She was born on March 31, 1938 in Joplin, Missouri and grew up in Galena, Kansas, the daughter of Jesse and Othal (Clapper) Shaw and sister to her brother, Carroll Shaw, who predeceased her. She was the mother of William Lloyd Crawford of Ann Arbor and Kristi Ferris Crawford.
During college in Kansas, Marilyn met the love of her life, David Eugene Crawford, whom she married on June 7, 1960. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage that included extensive travel, and many shared hobbies and interests, Music played a huge part in their lives-piano, voice, and dulcimer. They loved their home, patio and garden on Iroquois Place for 50 years as well as enjoying their vacation homes in Sarasota, Florida and Brooklyn, Michigan.
Until her retirement, Marilyn was a dedicated and well-respected teacher at Emerson School, Ann Arbor. She also worked during the 1980s as a part-time judicial coordinator for the Hon. Ross W. Campbell of the Washtenaw County Circuit Court. Marilyn had many interests and pursued them all with flair and style throughout her life. She was a musician, seamstress, quilter, gardener, and created unique jewelry and stained glass pieces.
As an adult, Marilyn became a devout member of the Catholic Church. She and David belonged to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Ann Arbor, where they sang in the choir.
Marilyn is survived by her devoted husband, David, her dear son Bill and many friends and colleagues who will always treasure her memory.
A memorial mass honoring Marilyn and open to the public will be held at 12 o’clock noon, Saturday, February 28 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 530 Elizabeth Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.
