

With her loving family in attendance, Norma passed away peacefully at her residence in Ann Arbor on Christmas evening. She was born in Fulton, KY on November 22, 1924, the only child of Goebel and Grace Usrey. She attended elementary school in Detroit and Flint, and graduated with honors from Ann Arbor High School in 1942. Norma received her BA from Wayne State University in 1946, majoring in early elementary education and Latin. She served as president of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority and president of the Intersorority Council. Norma was a revered teacher in the elementary schools of Detroit and Ann Arbor for 22 years, with her last classes being at Angell School in Ann Arbor.
Norma married her childhood sweetheart Curtis Wonnacott (deceased in 2003) in 1947 and they are survived by four children; Susan Wonnacott of Ann Arbor, Sandra (Scott) Storey of Okemos, MI, James (Tracey) Wonnacott of Charleston, SC, and Thomas (Cindy) Wonnacott of Lawrenceville, GA; seven grandchildren; Ryan (Amanda) Storey of Williamston, MI, Matthew (Erin) Storey of Salisbury, NC, Collin (Daria) Wonnacott of Davis, CA, Jason (Rachael) Storey of Wyandotte, MI, Caralina (Simon) Wigfield of Queens, NY, Jordan (Leslie) Wonnacott of Lawrenceville, GA, and Caitlin Wonnacott of Lawrenceville, GA; and five great-grandchildren; Carter and Parker Storey of Williamston, MI, Jacob and Judah Storey of Salisbury, NC, and Paisley Wonnacott of Lawrenceville, GA.
Norma was a member of First United Methodist Church (Miriam and Phoebe Circles), Ann Arbor Women’s City Club, Ann Arbor Golf & Outing, Waterman Alumnae Group, and Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority. She enjoyed golf, reading, and walking, and was an avid fan of U of M football and basketball. Norma was a terrific bridge player, achieving the rank of Life Master by the American Contract Bridge League, and she enjoyed playing games such as euchre with her children and grandchildren. She loved her family very much, and her family will cherish her memory.
Visitation will be held Thursday January 4, from 4-6 pm at Muehlig Funeral Chapel 403 S. Fourth Ave. Ann Arbor, MI 48104. The Memorial Service will be held Friday January 5, 1pm, at First United Methodist Church 120 S. State Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104
