

Pearline Rowry Sullivan, 80 years old passed away peacefully on Friday. October 27, 2017 at Birchwood Manor Assisted Living Facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was born on June 5, 1937 in Leland. Mississippi and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was a graduate of Ann Arbor High (Pioneer), class of 1955. She completed a post-graduate certification from Cleary College, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Her career with the Ann Arbor, Fifteenth District Court-Criminal Division as a clerk began in May of 1958. She retired after thirty-six years as the Deputy Court Clerk in November of 1994. Pearline being a dedicated mother and primary provider for her children, simultaneously owned and operated two yellow cabs and a cleaning service business. She was extremely active in her community, a civil rights activist in the 1960’s, an avid member of several bowling leagues in the 1970’s and a faithful member of the Ann Arbor Old Neighborhood Picnic Organization. Whenever she was called upon to “help;” visit the sick, transport someone to a doctor’s appointment, deliver dinners and assist with legal and police issues, Pearline answered the call. Her coined response would often be “I’ll be right there!” She was a friend to everyone, she was reliable and always ready to answer the call. To say Pearline was a loyal, dedicated, true-blue Michigan fan (GO BLUE! HAIL TO THE VICTORS) is an understatement. She loved and bled maize and blue until the end. Pearline Sullivan was preceded in death by her father Hubert Rowry, her mother Annie B. Rowry, son Elvester “Kevin” Sullivan, brothers JC, Elijah, Jeremiah, Moses, Peter, Ezra and sisters Ruth M. Peppers and Ida Covington and her beloved niece, Annabelle Rowry Jones. Pearline leaves to cherish her memory, her son Jerrold M. Collins of Boulder, Colorado and daughter Gail V. Sullivan Ivey of Decatur, Georgia: grandchildren Quiana Anderson of Atlanta, Georgia. Antoine Ivey of Decatur, Georgia and Tequia Lester of Fairburn, Georgia: great grandchildren Ahmad and Alexander Hunter of Atlanta, Georgia. brothers: Roosevelt Rowry of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Herbert (Doris) Rowry of Buena Park, California. Three sisters-in-law, Mary Helen Rowry, Margaret Rowry and Dianna Rowry, all of Ann Arbor, Michigan. A host of nieces and nephews and a few life-long friends Iralynn Allison and Melvin Henry. A home-going service has been planned for Saturday, November 11, 2017, with the family hour beginning at 10:00 a.m. for an hour and half until the service at 11:30 a.m. at Second Baptist Church 850 Red Oak Road. Ann Arbor, Michigan. Interment service will immediately follow the service at United Memorial Gardens, Plymouth, Michigan.
