

Wirth, Persis Ann Hathaway age 79 died Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Arbor Hospice after a several year battle with cancer. She was born July 19, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to Harold Hathaway and Bessie (English) Hathaway. She graduated from Denby High School in 1951 and Michigan Normal College, (Eastern Michigan University) in 1955. She married John Elwood Wirth in August of 1956 and they settled in Ann Arbor where she began her teaching career in the Ann Arbor Public Schools, a career that would span 38 years. She retired from teaching in 1995. Survivors include her beloved husband John, her daughter Margaret (Randy) Guinn of New Hudson, MI, her son Steven (JoAnne) Wirth of Coleman, MI, her grandchildren, Jeffery (Krista) Guinn, Jessica Guinn, Morgan Painter, Alyshia Iafrate, Zachary Wirth, Preston Wirth, and one Great-Granddaughter, Sophia Guinn, her brother in-law Ken Kelly, her niece Sarah Carpenter, her nephew Danny Kelly, and her grand-nephew Wesley Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Kelly, her brother James and sister-in-law Doty Hathaway. Leading a wonderful life as a teacher, spouse and mother, she always found time to play cards, especially contract bridge. She spent many days after her retirement playing cards at the Ann Arbor City Club and other venues with her good friends. Come celebrate Persis life with us on Wednesday October 17, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with a memorial gathering and a time of remembrance at the Ann Arbor City Club.
