We know Persis primarily through neighborhood gatherings and social events.  Persis was alway's interested in the lives and happennings of her friends and acquaintences and she loved to share about life and family.  We will miss her!

The world is a better place because of teachers like Persis Wirth

Mrs. Wirth  my all time favorite teacher. I was in her fifth grade class at Pittsfield School. Always loving, generous and kind.She always believed in me when others didn't.  She even called me at my home after seeing my wedding announcement in the Ann Arbor News. Loved her.

Persis's wisdom and advice were welcomed and sought after by ALL staff members, including new principals!  Her guidance was invaluable.  She showed adults and students alike how to be "better" people.  Pat Chapman

I have only known Persis for the past year, shortly before I married her grandson Jeff. I have learned that she is an amazing grandmother to all of her grandchildren. She was always a fair woman. I will miss her very much. I am so glad she stayed around long enough to met Sophia, her first Great Granddaughter. 

I love you Grandma Wirth! May you forever rest in peace and may you watch over the rest of us.

What a wonderful neighborhood we moved into on Arbana.  The Wirths, the Bates, the O'Briens were the "old guard;" we were among the newcomers. That's not to say that we were younger, just more recent arrivals.  Many a spring, summer and fall evening spent on [most often] the Bates' front porch or when that became too crowded, sprawled on the lawn--sometimes we brought our own plastic lawn chairs.  Always joined by our respective cats who kept a wary eye on one another but considered this neutral territory (OK, not the O'Brien's cat, who was never neutered).  As homes changed hands, each new arrival seemed to have a cat, or two [some exceptions apply, but they were good dogs!].  Later Persis, Carolyn and I made up the senior section in our late afternoon aerobics class, although truth be told, Persis and Carolyn often attended the 6 a.m. class. Persis didn't waste a minute of her day. The Arbana neighbors took care of one another.  It was a wonderful and wonderfully diverse introduction to Ann Arbor for the Mendlers, thanks to our neighbors.

As her neibors at Lake Vineyard we always enjoyed the casual summer evings on the deck with a glass of wine and solving the world problems. she was an adid reader and passed on many good books.

What a wonderful educator and what an inspiration to all her students. May She rest in peace.

I met Persis as served for many years with the Ann Arbor Education Association's Professional Rights and Responsibilities Board, and then after retirement we walked together from time to time at the Washtenaw County Recreation Center.  As she battled cancer we had many long talks about mortality.  What I learned from that was that she was a wonderful person who felt at peace with whatever happened next. I will miss her!

Bill and I were friends and neighbors of Percis and John for many years. I so enjoyed our conversations about teaching and investing and our families. She will be greatly missed.

We added onto her house so she could have a bedroom on the first floor.  What a lovely lady. We enjoyed coming to work every single day of the project. If there were more people like her the world would be a far better place.

I will really miss her. She had great wisdom and humor. My condolences to her friends and family. Robbi Duda RN

Mrs.Wirth was my fourth grade teacher in 1974 at Mitchell.She was a great teacher!

I taught at Mack School with Persis and always enjoyed our chats about life, students and the challenge of teaching.  She was an inspirational person and a calm, dedicated teacher;  I was lucky to have known her.  My deepest sympathies.

I taught with Persis at Mitchell School for several years and remember her kindness and dedication to our students. My condolences to her family.

I met Persis in the "Silver Bowl" club, a group of retired AAPS teachers who meet once a month for a potluck lunch and conversation.  I was impressed with her sharp mind and quick wit --- many a wonderful exchange.  Our group will greatly miss her.

It was a pleasure and a delight to teach with Persus, play bridge with her, and be her friend for over 25 years.
I already miss her.

Persis was my first mentor in teaching fifth grade in Ann Arbor, at Mack School.  She began as my teacher, demonstrating how to teach lessons, providing me with each day's curriculum, and listening patiently as I sobbed out frustrations with uncooperative student behavior.  After a few years, she became my colleague and partner in teaching.  We taught fifth grade together for many years at Mack, until her retirement.  Persis was the consummate teacher - always learning, always questioning, always forming new opinions and seeking further information.  Her thoughtful manner and patient attitude modeled what it meant to be a lifelong learner, for her students and colleagues.  I have missed her at school.
