Raymond Clarence Williams was born in Washington DC. He was the oldest of four children to Raymond Williams and Agnes Marie (Henry) Williams who have preceded him in death. Ray lived in DC and attended public schools; Anne Beers Elementary (where he was Captain of the Safety Patrol), Kramer Jr. High, (where he began his love of music, playing the trombone) and graduated from Anacostia High School with honors. He was on Anacostia’s softball team, played in the band and played football. He was also a member of the student government, chess club captain, and made several appearances on It’s Academic and was the captain of the team Ray received a scholarship to attend the University of Michigan in 1968, and began his life in Ann Arbor. He completed his education at Eastern Michigan University where he received his Bachelor's Degree. While attending UM he worked for Jack and Jill Day Care Center where he developed lasting relationships with the families. He worked for the US Postal Service for more than 35 years. He received many awards for outstanding service, never using sick leave for years at a time and his recommendations on how to improve service to the public. He developed life long friendships with coworkers and many people along his delivery route. We all enjoyed his long conversations about government, environment, cooking, education, sports, the UM band and the many changes in the landscape of Ann Arbor. You felt very special if you were the recipient of one of his special homemade chocolates or the gift of a rose with a smile. He stayed active playing on the HABS Softball Team, enjoying jazz concerts and taking yearly trips to Canada to enjoy plays at Stratford with his devoted friend Elizabeth (Liza) Dale. Ray was a loving and attentive brother. Ray is survived by his siblings Angela E. (Williams) Johnson, Karen M. (Williams) Putman (Harry Putman, husband), Terry M.
