Stefan Hofmann was born in the northern village of Saudarkrokur, Iceland. Stefan passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 11, 2021.

Stefan and his parents emigrated to the United States where his father Heinz opened Hofmann’s Furniture on State Street in Ann Arbor in 1965. Stefan apprenticed with his father, a master woodworker and developed an incredible talent and passion for woodworking and craftsmanship.

Like his father, he enjoyed hunting, antiquing and collecting automobiles. He is survived by his devoted partner of 15 years Marilyn Richason; his children Erin Spriggs, Christina Richason, Erika Asplund, Stefan F. Hofmann, and two cousins Helga and Regina Simmroth.

Stefan was one of a kind; He was a charismatic man and a fiercely loyal friend. He was a loving father and husband. He will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 1pm at Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor. The family will receive visitors starting at 11:00 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. with a memorial service at 1:30 P.M. A celebration of life will follow directly after the memorial service at his business located on state street in Ann Arbor.

He is one of the few people I remember from high school. He was a great kid back then and a lot of fun. Later I would see him as I worked at the Michigan Ladder Co. He would stop by once in a while. He was always a good-hearted guy seeming eternally young. Last time I saw him he was purchasing a ban saw from that place just last year. He always seemed so full of life. I feel he is a man that added much to the lives of those around him. I was and am deeply shocked and saddened that he died.

Stef-
We first met back in 1993 when you generously allowed my Team to train on your property...you have always been that kind and supportive soul to me, my fellow officers, and my son...Ethan (his first hunting experience was on your property). With an artisan's expertise you beautifully restored a civil war era treasure of my grandmothers. I cannot adequately thank you for all the things and experiences you have shared with me , my friends and family. Please know you will be greatly missed and always remembered!

I met Stefan on the 1st day of school at Tappan Junior High School. We were new in the neighborhood and found out Stefan live a block or so away on Fernwood St. We hung out thru and after High School. Our group as Dave Mcguire said would hunt Pheasants on weekends. I had lots of fun hanging out with Stefan. Rest in Peace Stefan. My condolences to his family.

First became friends with Stefan when he moved to Ann Arbor and he lived across the creek from me. We use to walk to school together. As we grew older, we use to hunt together and I worked for his father on Saturdays. We became very close friends. Thoughts and prayers goes out to his family. Rest in peace my long time friend.

My Cousin! The Best Cousin a girl could ask for! We were both born in Iceland months apart. Stefan’s Mom and mine were sisters. They had a Double wedding in East Germany and left for Iceland. My father met a man from Michigan and came Stefan and Aunt Gisela and Uncle Heinz came four years Later. His story of the night he got here always tickled me. Halloween night! My dad picked them up at night from the airport, pushed a Silver Dollar in each of his hands. Then they got to our house my sister and I had dumped all our candy in a pile that looked more like a mountain! He said he thought he’d arrived in Paradise!
He always took Great Care of me. He was more like a Brother!
I will Always Love my Cousin so Much!
