Harris, Terrance William was born on April 2, 1969 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The son of William L. and Linda A. Harris, Terry, was baptized at Brown Chapel A.M.E Church and continued his Christian education at Bethel A.M.E. Church. He was an energetic, strong, loving inspiration to us all.
Terry lived a normal childhood until he was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 5. As a result of the tumor’s progression, Terry underwent cutting-edge brain surgery and radiation treatment at the University of Michigan at the age of 9. After his successful surgery, he was given 6 months to live, but God’s grace and Terry’s strength, courage, and love of life kept him with us for another 32 years. He loved Bo Schembechler, the Michigan Wolverines, and Michael Jackson. He enjoyed singing, dancing, vacations, and holiday dinners with family and friends. He attended Huron High School and then graduated from the Washtenaw Intermediate School District. After graduation, he worked in Ann Arbor and spent time visiting his family. He is survived by his parents, William L. and Linda A. Harris, his brother, Charles E. Harris, his sister, Kristen Harris Nwanyanwu (Kelechi Nwanyanwu), and grandmother, Iva. G. Davis, along with many uncles, aunts, and cousins. In homegoing, he will join his grandfathers, Charles R. Harris and Evans B. Davis, his grandmother, Lena M. Copeland, and step-grandfather Eli Copeland. Although Terry was only with us for a short time, we will cherish our years with him for a lifetime. He will always live in our Hearts and we will forever be inspired by the miracle that was his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital Pediatric Neurology Department in memory of Terrance W. Harris to support their care of patients with epilepsy. A family hour, followed by a celebration of Terry’s life, will be held at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Ann Arbor on Monday, September 27 at 10am. The family would like to thank the staff at Grand Blanc Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and the staff at Genesys Hospital for their care of our beloved Terry.
