Theophany Betty Poulos, Heaven received our precious daughter, sister, and auntie on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Thea was the first born to Peter and Charlene Poulos on May 7, 1960, in Killeen, Texas. After Thea’s father completed his two year enlistment in the army they moved to Muskegon, Michigan. Tragedy struck Thea at only 18 months old when she became ill from meningitis. After days in a coma, Thea woke up but could no longer talk, no longer walk, and no expectation for any recovery. All hope for a long, fruitful life was taken away by medical science but the power of faith overruled. Living at home, cared for by her Mom, and growing up with four siblings created the kind of environment where Thea could thrive and be happy. Thea had her own way of communicating and getting around, and she had likes and dislikes no different than anyone else. Thea enjoyed listening to music, running her Playskool toy bus back and forth on the floor, sitting in the backyard in the summer, and going for rides in the car. A few years after moving to Ann Arbor, Thea attended the newly opened High Point School. She absolutely loved going to school every day, and traveling by bus. After Mom passed away, Thea lived with her sister Athena, who continued giving Thea heartfelt care. The final two years, Thea was given compassionate and loving care by Country Lane House, Villa of Park Ridge and Hospice. Thea was endearing to all who took care of her, and in return she received the best care imaginable. Thea’s music therapist recently found out how much Thea loved the song by John Denver, Take Me Home, Country Roads, little did she know that Thea has loved that song since she was young especially when her Mom would sing along for her. The effect Thea had on others was indescribable. Her beautiful smile lit up a room, her clicking sounds signaled happiness, her laughter was contagious, and the simplest things would bring her joy. What Thea gave us greatly outweighed what was taken from her, she gave us the most incredible unselfish and unconditional love. Thea was preceded in death by her mother, Charlene K. Poulos and her brother, John “Yonnie” Poulos. Thea will be greatly missed by her father, Peter G. Poulos, her sisters Julie (Allen) Williams, Athena Garland-Poulos, her brother George (Sharon) Poulos, her nieces and nephews, John Poulos, Alexander and Kathleen Williams, Michael and Nicholas Garland, Isabella Poulos, Peter and Morgan Poulos, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Thea’s wings were ready but our hearts were not. We were truly blessed to have Thea in our lives, and we hope she is now at peace. Funeral services will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church 3109 Scio Church Rd, Ann Arbor, MI. 48103 with Father Nicolaos H. Kotsis officiating.
