Born on November 6, 1961, in L’Anse, Michigan, Thomas was the son of Clifford and Winifred Tyosh, both of whom preceded him in death. He faced a difficult start in life but grew into a strong-willed, resilient man who lived life on his own terms. A true jack of all trades, he worked as a chef, a roofer, and just about everything in between, always bringing a sense of pride and determination to his work.
Thomas was extremely proud of his Chippewa heritage and carried it with him wherever life led. He was passionate about natural history and had a deep love for beadwork, spending countless hours crafting pieces that reflected his culture and spirit. Known for his friendly and appreciative nature, Thomas had a warm presence and an adventurous soul that made a lasting impression on those around him.
In the fall of 1990, Thomas met his wife, Kelly, in Ann Arbor, where they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and movement—Thomas could never stay in one place too long, always chasing the next horizon.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kelly Tyosh of Ann Arbor; his siblings, Marcia Maddox of Lexington, SC; Priscilla Friend of Minot, ND; Edwin Adams of Green Bay, WI; and Clifford James Tyosh of South Dakota. He is also survived by his uncle, Robert Spindlow of Burlington, IA.
Thomas was preceded in death by his brother, David Nelson Tyosh, and his sister, Patricia Holcomb.
Thomas will be remembered for his restless spirit, his deep connection to his heritage and the natural world, and the warmth and generosity he shared with everyone he met.
