Warren Lee Hallock of Ann Arbor, Michigan, died on November 11, 2013 at the University of Michigan hospital. He was 82 years old. Warren was born in Elgin, Illinois, on April 11, 1931. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1953 and spent some of the time in French Morocco.
He studied business and graduated from Western Illinois University. He worked as a sales representative for 36 years in the steel industry and retired in 1993.
Warren met his partner, Werner Grilk, in 1976 and they enjoyed 37 years together, sharing interests in music, the arts, and travel. For many years they spent some time in the winter in San Miguel de Allende with Warren’s brother-in-law, Bill, and his niece, Janet. Warren and Werner especially enjoyed travelling by cruise ship, often joined by friends.
Warren could be seen shopping with friends at the Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market most Saturdays. He liked to cook for and entertain friends and family when the weather was fine on the screened-in porch he designed. He loved to garden and transformed his and Werner’s back yard into a beautiful Japanese-style garden.
He learned how to use his Mac computer and was adept at searching for information on the web and corresponding using email. He listened to books downloaded from Audible.com and preferred historical fiction. He was quite knowledgeable in art history and he and Werner visited many art museums in North and South America and Europe.
He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his many friends and family members in and outside “the bubble”, his name for the accepting environment of Ann Arbor.
Warren is survived by his partner, Werner Grilk, of Ann Arbor, and many loving nieces and nephews. A memorial service is planned for next Spring. For further details of time and place, contact Alan Burg at [email protected].
