

Bill was born on April 17, 1926 in Ann Arbor to Cone and Emma Lighthall. He was raised on the East side of Ann Arbor where he attended elementary and secondary school. He went to high school at the Culver Military Academy after which he attended Albion College. After graduating in 1946, he married Carol Alberzart whom he had met while at Albion. Bill furthered his education with various graduate programs at U of M and MSU. He went to work for Hoover Ball & Bearing (later known as Hoover Universal, Hoover KSK), then acquired by Johnson Control. Bill had various positions including setting up operations in Japan and Europe. His final position before retirement was as a Risk Manager. Following his retirement at age 65, William consulted as a risk manager for various companies for five years.
Bill and Carol lived on a small, gentleman’s farm north of Ann Arbor, complete with horses and other livestock. He enjoyed his hobbies of horseback riding, golf, and puttering around his farm until moving to Brookdale.
Bill is survived by his son, C. William (Linda) Lighthall; daughters-in-law, Jennifer Lighthall and Jane Lighthall; six grandchildren, Lauren (Todd) Hughes, Katie (Scott) Payton, Claudia Lighthall, Elizabeth Lighthall, Jonathon (Holly) Lighthall and Christopher Lighthall; six great-grandchildren, Scarlett Hughes, Kellen Hughes, Holden Hughes, Cole Payton, Finn Payton and Liam Lighthall. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Carol R. and sons, Charlie and James.
The family will hold a private graveside service on Friday, May 11, 2018, followed by a reception for friends of the family, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Barton Hills Country Club 730 Country Club Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48105.
