

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William Thomas Slade, who left us peacefully on August 14, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on August 8, 1932, William lived a life rich with love, laughter, and adventure, and he will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
William was a man of extraordinary kindness and an unparalleled sense of humor. His laughter was a beacon of joy to all around him, and his ability to listen and truly hear others made him a cherished friend and confidant. He possessed a rare combination of humor and empathy, touching countless lives with his warmth and wisdom.
A true sports enthusiast, William’s passion for athletics was evident throughout his life. As a young man, he played professional baseball for the New York Giants before his career was interrupted by his service in the Navy. There, he served with distinction as a Yeoman First Class. Williams’s love for sports continued long after, with his unwavering support for the Cincinnati Reds and a deep appreciation for all forms of athletic competition.
William’s zest for life was matched by his love of travel. He and his beloved wife, Judith Ann Slade, who predeceased him in 2018, embarked on a journey of exploration that took them to 46 countries. Their travels included remarkable destinations like Russia and the Galapagos Islands, often enjoyed from the deck of a cruise ship. Their shared adventures were a testament to their enduring love and partnership, which spanned 61 wonderful years.
In addition to his travels, William had a fulfilling career in management with Marathon Petroleum, where he worked for 30 years. He was also an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Ann Arbor for 23 years, where he was known for his dedication and spirit.
William is remembered fondly by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of his company. He is survived by his daughters Melissa Wilkins and Rebecca Cheuvront as well as 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy of kindness, humor, and love.
William Thomas Slade’s life was a testament to the joy of living fully and loving deeply. He will be forever cherished and remembered with great affection by all who knew him.
