He found great joy navigating the high seas from the Caribbean to Maine. Carr was gregarious, generous, well-known for his booming laugh and ability to bring out laughter in others. His hair was legendary and his round glasses iconic. He was a devoted friend of Bill W and a vibrant member of the community.
He was born in Suffolk, Virginia to Ned C. Stogner and Helen Woodall Stogner, and then moved with his parents to Roanoke, VA where they opened the popular store Stogner Shoes. Carr attended Patrick Henry High School and was a Distinguished Military Graduate of the Army Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (1971). He received his undergraduate degree and J.D. with honors from University of Richmond (1973). After launching his career with McGuireWoods he ultimately established a Trust & Estates practice in old town Alexandria, VA. He was a popular local figure, known for solving complex cases, and providing expert testimony for over 45 years.
He is survived by his loving wife Maggie Stogner, father-in-law Ray Barnett, stepsons Kevin Burnette and Douglas Burnette, Doug’s wife Alexia Rostow and their daughter Abigail, and his godchildren Oliver and Henry, all of whom he dearly loved and loved dearly to brag about.
