Charles Firman Mansur

Charles Firman Mansur died of a heart attack on May 2, 2016 at his winter home in Sarasota Florida. Charley is survived by his loving wife Darlene, his sister Ruth Dickerson of Lewes, Delaware and his brother Sam Dickerson of Annapolis, Maryland, and many fond and loyal friends. Charley Mansur was born on August 17,1934 in Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Loyola High School and graduated class of 1953. The following fall he entered the University of Maryland, School of Engineering. He received a BS degree in Engineering in 1957.

His first job was with Koppers but he left shortly to join the Air Force, having been commissioned as Second lieutenant thru ROTC. Charley became Supply Officer and was stationed at Spangdhlem AFB, GE. He was key in moving the 42TRS Squadron to RAF Chelveston. He completed his tour in 1960 and after a year touring Europe he returned to the USA to open Koppers’ west coast sales operation in San Francisco, CA. In 1962, Charley met Darlene Campbell of Ketchikan, Alaska, a Pan Am stewardess. They were married on April 3, 1965. The happy couple then took a 30 day round the world honeymoon. After sailing the waters of San Francisco Bay and skiing the trails of Squaw Valley, CA. Koppers moved the Mansurs east, first to Pittsburgh, and finally landing in Annapolis, Maryland where he bought the company with the other managers, renaming it Kopflex and becoming CEO. Here Charley and Darlene’s combined love of sailing would see them design and build several yachts and renovate a beautiful waterfront home on Whitehall Creek in Annapolis. Charley was a Past Commodore of the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake. He was also a member of the Annapolis Yacht Club, the New York Yacht Club, the Sarasota Yacht Club, and the Spa Creek Cruising Club. Charley will be missed by all.

A memorial will be held at the Annapolis Yacht Club on June 8, 2016 at 1:30 pm.
