David James Ebert, son of Joseph Christian Ebert and Grace May Ebert (nee Haust) died at his home in Annapolis, MD on Friday, June 30, 2023 after a brief illness. Dave was born May 10, 1941 and recently celebrated his 82nd birthday by planting a vegetable garden with his family.
Dave was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and attended North Allegheny Senior High School. He went on to graduate from the United States Naval Academy, 22nd company, in 1963. While there, he met his wife, Lynn, at a Carvel Hall dance on King George Street, just outside of Gate 1. At the time of his engagement, as part of an initiation of engaged midshipmen, Dave was thrown into the reflection pond, which was outside of Bancroft Hall at the time. Dave and Lynn married on June 8th, immediately following commissioning week.
Dave was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia on the USS Eaton and Newport, Rhode Island on the USS Wilkinson. He attended Anti-Submarine Warfare school in Key West, Florida and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a Master’s of Science in electrical engineering in 1973. Dave worked on the U.S. Naval Station for 42 years with the Joint Spectrum Center as a research engineer.
Dave loved gardening, his daily walks through the neighborhood, following the stock market and supporting his grandchildren in their activities. Dave was known for his dry sense of humor and his love of music. He was a proud supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed watching Navy football and spending time with his many friends from the Naval Academy Alumni Association.
Dave and his wife recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Dave is survived by his wife, Lynn Ebert (nee Neugent), his daughters Cynthia E. Russo (Brian) and Lori E. Miller (Jeffery) and 6 grandchildren, Payton, Alexander, Hailey and Eric Russo and Tristan and McKenna Miller. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and Dave was always excited to share their interests. The neighborhood will miss seeing Dave on his nightly walks while sharing the harvest from his vegetable garden. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association (https://diabetes.org), the Boy Scouts of America (https://donations.scouting.org) or the charity of your choice. The family will hold a private service at the United States Naval Academy Columbarium, and a celebration of life is planned for a later date.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.johnmtaylorfuneralhome.com for the Ebert family.
