

Edgar Norman Jones, Sr., "Wimpy", passed away of natural causes on Monday, February 23, 2015, at Brightview Assisted Living in Edgewater, Md, where he resided for the past 3 years. Born June 30, 1924 in Baltimore City to the late Frank and Catherine Jones. He was the youngest of 5 siblings. He proudly served his Country in the Merchant Marines during World War II, participants in The Invasion of Normandy. Wimpy and his young family moved to Annapolis in 1949 and worked at Trumpy’s Boatyard, the Naval Experimental Station and also on the Construction of the Bay Bridge. In 1951 he entered the Service of the Annapolis City Fire Department, where he was called a father-figure for many of the young firefighters. Wimpy's 3 sons also followed him into the Annapolis Fire Department. He served as Battalion Chief from 1972 to his retirement in 1989. Chief Jones came up through the ranks and held every position within the Fire Department during his outstanding career, He was also a member of the Eastport Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Hose Company. Chief Jones and his wife Marybelle enjoyed traveling and camping. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge 622. Chief Jones is predeceased by his wife Marybelle. He is survived by his daughter Geral Parks-Lisi (Richard) of Annapolis; sons James Michael Jones (Bobbi) of Bluffton, SC; John Frank Jones (Mary Ann) of Annapolis, Edgar Norman Jones, Jr. (Diana) of Ocean Pines, MD; 8 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Annapolis Fire Department, 1790 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD 21403. Friends and family may visit from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Friday February 27 and Saturday February 28 from 10 am to 11 am. Services will be at 11 am at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
