Born in 1943, to Francis John Lewnes and Helen Gray Lewnes, Ann grew up in Annapolis, graduating from Saint Mary’s High School in 1961. While she worked numerous jobs throughout her career, eventually retiring from her sales and marketing position with NNI Engineering in 2001, Ann was most proud of the time she spent raising her children and volunteering in the community. Whether it was helping out at her children’s schools, teaching literacy classes at the local library, or simply being there whenever friends or family needed, Ann was a giving soul who truly enjoyed helping others.
In 1999 she married her second husband, Paul Dix, with whom she spent the next 22 years travelling, cheering on the Ravens, and enjoying time spent with family and friends. Her hobbies included tending to her flowers and all things crafting, with special attention given to the handmade Christmas cards she would produce each year. Later in life, Ann also took up writing, enjoying the creative outlet and all of the people she met through it.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, John Thomas Lewnes. She is survived by her daughter Anita McPherson (Robert) of San Rafael, CA; son David Ryker of Annapolis, MD; step-daughter Karen Alvey (Christopher) of Lusby, MD; step-daughter Pamela Chirico of Jacksonville Beach, FL; step-son Kevin Dix of Greenfield, MA; granddaughter Lindsay Alvey; and grandsons Benjamin Knight, Zachary Chirico, and Jason Alvey. In addition to her immediate family, Ann will be missed by her extended family members, as well as her many friends and classmates.
Visitation will be on August 29th from 3pm to 6pm at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home in Annapolis, with a second visitation on September 3rd at 9:15am, a memorial service immediately thereafter at the funeral home at 10:00am, and burial to follow at 11:30am at the Crownsville Veterans’ Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ann’s memory to the Maryland SPCA.
