

John Raymond Cashin Sr. (Ray), 93, a long-time resident of Annapolis, MD, died Thursday May 21 at Aspenwood Senior Living in Silver Spring, MD, after several months of declining health. Ray was born in Waterbury, CT on February 5, 1922. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut in Storrs (Theta Chi fraternity) and a World War II veteran (U.S. Coast Guard.) He married his wife Ellen on May 19, 1951. After living many years in Connecticut and New York they moved to New Carrollton, MD, where Ray worked for Coca Cola after working in the dairy business for many years. After Ray retired in 1987, he and Ellen moved to Heritage Harbour in Annapolis. Ray was an involved member of the Lions Clubs International for over 45 years, holding many service positions including President and Chaplain. He was a life-long avid golfer, proud of his 3 hole-in-ones, and passed his love of golf on to his nephew, children and grandchildren. He was a member of MISGA (Maryland Interclub Seniors Golf Association.) He was a parishioner of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Annapolis. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen, and his brother and sister. Surviving him are his four children, Laurina Cashin (Bobbie Combs), Bonney Cashin (Kent Smith), Beth Aitken (Robert) and John Raymond Cashin Jr. (Jeanne); grandchildren Kieran Smith, Christopher, David and Geoffrey Aitken, Ashley Merckling (Nick), Drew and Sean Cashin; great-grandchildren Jackson and Kendal Merckling; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be offered June 3, 10:30 a.m. at St John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD 21401, followed later this summer by a funeral Mass and burial in Waterbury, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to the Annapolis Lions Club, P.O.
