Dr. Luis Ricardo Flores, 89 and a 54-year resident of Annapolis, died peacefully at home on May 15, surrounded by his family. He was born in Lima Peru on October 7, 1932. He excelled in school earning a scholarship to study in Madrid, Spain. After completing a Medical Degree and marrying the beautiful and vivacious Valentina, he spent a year at the Sorbonne earning a master’s in journalism. In 1957, he returned to Lima to work, surf, and enjoy his growing and extended family. Luis immigrated to the United States in 1964. He trained in Psychiatry at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and subsequently accepted a position at Medfield State Hospital in Medfield, Massachusetts. In 1968, he relocated the family to Annapolis accepting a position at Crownsville State Hospital becoming Director of Administration until its closure. Luis loved knowledge, travel, and adventure. He found many lifelong friends in his travels which included treks on the Inca Trail and St. James Way. He was proud of his service as a Major in the US Army Reserves and loved this country deeply. Preceded in death by his children, Desiree Flores, and Federico "Kiko" Flores; Luis is survived by his wife of 68 years, Valentina Raquel Velarde Flores; his daughters, Isabel Hoker and her husband Bill Hoker and Marianela Sargent; his sons Luis V. Flores, Francisco Flores his wife Lynn Hitch, Antonio “Tony” Flores and his wife Sharon Flores; six grandchildren Jensen Sargent and his wife Karla Sargent, Jacqueline Sargent, Derek Hoker and his wife Jennifer Hoker, Lisa Hoker, Antonio “TJ” Flores and Sean Flores and four great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church 620 Bestgate Road Annapolis, MD 21401 on Wednesday June 22, 2022 at 10:30 AM. Inurnment Saint Mary's Cemetery.
