Mark Harry Baldwin, 65, of Edgewater, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, September 22, 2024. With great sadness, his family members say goodbye to a larger-than-life and one-of-a-kind man.
Mark Baldwin was born on June 7, 1959, in Cumberland, MD to parents Roy and Janet Baldwin. Mark later moved to Delaware, where he graduated from Newark High School. He then attended the University of Delaware, where he was the Vice Commodore of the sailing club and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He went on to lead a successful career in computer power sales, being integral in the origins of the data center industry as both an entrepreneur and inventor holding several patents. Throughout his life and career, he lived in Atlanta, GA; Birmingham, AL; Baltimore, MD; and later raised his family in Davidsonville, MD for over 20 years before most recently living in Edgewater, MD.
He was lovingly called Marky Mark or Captain Marcos by his sons and family. Mark was an avid outdoorsman and found particular joy out on the water sailing the Chesapeake Bay, listening to Jimmy Buffett and smoking a cigar surrounded by those he loved. He captivated friends and family by telling stories and cracking jokes. No one could tell a better story or make people laugh harder than Mark. He enjoyed hunting with his longtime Poplar Grove Hunt Club friends and was often told to be quiet in the duck blind.
To Mark, life was not just a glass half-full, it was always full. He was the eternal optimist. His charisma, wonderful sense of humor and fun-loving attitude were infectious to all those he met and knew. Mark’s life goal was the happiness of those around him. Mark was trustworthy, loyal, generous and caring. He was resilient and a hard worker. Mark was a lifelong learner and well-read on all topics including politics and business. Mark had the “gift of gab” and was a great conversationalist. Mark was truly a good soul and most importantly a family man. His beloved children, parents, siblings, extended family and friends always took priority to him. There was nothing he would not do for those he loved so dearly. Mark had the largest heart and celebrated everyone's accomplishments and shared in their sorrows.
Mark's life lessons will continue to live on through his family and his legacy will be honored. He is greatly missed by those whose lives he has impacted throughout the years.
Mark is survived by his two sons, Stuart Baldwin of Annapolis, MD and Connor (Meagan) Baldwin of Falls Church, VA; his former wife, Cheryl Marian of Breckenridge CO; parents Roy and Janet Baldwin of Easton, MD; sister Susan (Kevin) Brady of Easton, MD, brothers David (Vickie) Baldwin of Ellijay, GA and Bruce (Lori) Baldwin of The Villages, FL. Mark is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Mark’s life at St. John Neumann’s Church (620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD) on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 10:30 am with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mark’s name to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Attn: Membership Department, 6 Herndon Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403.
