

Miriam Barbara Matiz-Neff died at her home in Crownsville, MD the morning of May 23, 2015. She was Born in Ponce’ Puerto Rico on Dec 6, 1936, the first daughter of the late Cristobal Matiz Sr, and the late Apolinar Polita Matiz. Miriam was brought to Annapolis, Maryland at age 10 months. She was a resident of Annapolis and Crownsville, MD for the remainder of her life. She was part owner of AL-Cor Body Works on Old Generals Hwy in the 1950’s with her former husband Alexander McKee Neff. She was a Dietician for the Fairfield and Pleasant Living Nursing Homes for over 15 years. She attended Saint Mary’s Grammar and High School in Annapolis and graduated in June 1954 she was a member of the Sodality Confraternity. She was one of “The Golden Seniors” of Saint Mary’s Alumni. A Devoted lifelong parishioner of Saint Mary’s and a dedicated Adoration volunteer every Thursday 9:30pm to 11:30pm for more than 19 years. She was also a member of Ranger Rosary and their Appalachian Project and also Catholic Daughter of the Americas. She gave consistently to 17 charities and faithfully contributed to St. Mary’s and St. John Nuemann throughout the years. On her leisure time she enjoyed parties and events with family and friends. She also loved to make her own trivia questions to play with family and enjoyed writing her own poetry in cards that she sent to loved ones. She also was a Double Day book club reader. She is survived by her daughter Renee Marie Neff, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He infant daughter Delores Marie Neff and her son Roy Alexander Neff are deceased. Miriam is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Cristobal (Isabel) Matiz, Ramon V. Matiz, Virginia M. (Jerry) Daywalt, Judith A. Conway, Michael J. Matiz, Nina (Don) Kover, JoAnn D. Seeders, Mary P. Matiz, Pilar M. (Mark) Jones, Gloria (Ricky) Newman and Jerry Matiz, and more than 125 family members. She is predeceased by her sister Isabel Matiz. She will be truly missed by her family, friends, neighbors, her classmates and people she met and helped along the way. She will be waked at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home at 147 Duke of Glouster St, Annapolis on Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 6pm - 8pm and on Sunday, May 31 from 2pm - 4pm and 6pm - 8pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St John Neumann Roman Catholic Church at 620 Bestgate Rd, Annapolis on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Bestgate Memorial Park, 814 Bestgate Rd Annapolis. God’s Blessings to you always, our “Sissy”.
