Peter Joseph Kaschak, III was born on a Monday, becoming the third rugrat of the Kaschak family. Following Diana and then Stephen, his time as the youngest child didn't last long as his baby sister Suzanne joined the fun. The four of them were raised by loving parents, Patricia Ann Kaschak and the late Peter Joseph Kaschak, Jr.
After serving in the U.S. Army as a TELCOM Specialist, Pete joined the National Security Agency, where he provided 33 years of service. While working at NSA, Pete, or as some called him Petey, made many friends who also enjoyed going to concerts, especially to see Jethro Tull, Ian Anderson, and the Young Dubliners. Pete always had a passion for music. So much so, that he has what we believe to be a world record collection of CD's and memorabilia. In this next chapter of his life, Pete was learning to play the Bass Guitar. Better now than as a young teenager. He spared his family of that one.
After Pete's retirement, he became closer with his family. He was able to spend more time with his Mom, whom he cherished. He visited with her daily and provided constant love and support. It was a beautiful thing to witness and something all should envy. Pete always made a point to stay involved with his family. He was a caring uncle and admirable role model to Stephanie Macdonald, Marvin Williams, Jr., Christopher Williams, and Benjamin Broman. He was always available to provide support and generosity to his siblings Diana, Steve, Suzanne, and brothers in-law, Marvin and David. At family gatherings you could always count on Pete to provide the witty quip or start a debate; whether we landed on the moon, or try pushing an illegitimate word in Scrabble. He always brought smiles to his family and friends.
Since retirement, Pete also developed a love for running. A passion he shared with his sister and brother-in-law. Whether it was a light jog through a park, or running across the Bay Bridge, it was their thing. It will always be their thing. Except for the Yoohoo. Only Pete could run 10 miles and then drink a bottle of Yoohoo afterwards. Pete was an avid collector of various memorabilia. Collection of Betty Boop, old books, and classic black & white movies on DVD . Authors like A.A. Milne books (Winnie the Pooh), and DVD's like Casablanca.. Aside from these, Pete lived a minimal lifestyle. He believed in leaving a light ecological footprint. Despite his best efforts, one pair of footprints can never be erased. The ones he left in our hearts.
Pete was a beautiful and humble person. Someone we should all aspire to be. He wasn't very vocal about his religious beliefs, but it was evident in how he lived his life and treated others that he was a believer of Jesus Christ. Compassionate, caring, always listening, and loved with all his heart. As Winnie the Pooh said it best, "If there ever comes day when we can't be together, keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever." We love you Pete.
A celebration of life will be held at John M. Taylor funeral home in Annapolis, MD on March 19th between 2-4pm.
He will be laid to rest at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville following a private service and Military Funeral Honors by National Guard Honor Guard at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite local running group in honor of Pete and his love for running.
