Van was born January 14, 1955, in Linden Texas and lived in Atlanta, Texas until the family moved to the Houston Area. He graduated from Deer Park High School in 1974. While in high school he loaded US mail trucks and began working for the family’s business repairing semi-truck tires on the side of the highway. After leaving the family business he became a welder in the oil refineries along the Houston Ship Channel and across the nation. He also built log homes, boat docks and sold life insurance. He began right of way work for fiber which transitioned him into telecom. Leaving East Texas he began his new career as a Site Acquisition Specialist in Chicago, Illinois. He then came to Maryland for an 18-month job, 30 years ago. Van continued working for B & E Associates doing site acquisition work until the company was purchased by American Tower where he became an area director over the MidAtlantic region. After leaving American Tower Van began his journey in tower development where he started TARA Communications. He also started and sold Invisible Towers and HTS Towers with business partners which led him to semi-retirement. He was always working hard to provide for his family. Van was a true American dream story.
He has faithfully served the Lord in many capacities. Whether it be a board member, deacon, lead usher, van driver, sound engineer or serving the community at the pantry.
Van loved music and playing his guitar. He also loved spending time on the water, duck hunting, fishing, water skiing, pulling his kids and grandkids on the tube or cruising across the Bay for dinner.
