

Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Victor E. Vachon, 88, of Annapolis, Maryland, died after a lengthy illness due to heart failure on July 28, 2022 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born in DesMoines, IA on January 13, 1934, he lived with his Father and Mother, the late Ernest and Madonna (Grubbs) Vachon. They moved to Parsons, WV, where he graduated from Parsons High School in 1953.
After graduating from West Virginia University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1957, he volunteered for the U.S. Army. He spent 4 years in active duty, serving much of this time in Germany. After his active duty service, he spent an additional 16 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. While in the reserves, he worked as an Industrial Engineer at Westinghouse, retiring after 25 years.
He was very involved with his children's youth activities, which included Suburbia Swim Team, YMCA Indian Guides, Girl Scouts of America, Boy Scouts of America, and Hampstead Little League. His family attended Holy Trinity Church and Good Shepherd Church while living in Glen Burnie, and Saint Bartholomew Church after moving to Hampstead in 1978.
In retirement, Vic kept busy playing golf, visiting casinos, and traveling. He especially enjoyed taking cruises, and spending summers at his beach condo in Ocean City, Maryland. He loved to cheer on the Ravens and the Orioles. He had many friends at the American Legion, Moose and Elks Lodges. Vic was the ultimate handyman, who could build or repair anything and who loved helping out family and friends.
He was formerly married to Sally Vachon of Catonsville, MD. He is survived by his life partner of 32 years Carol Ennis; one son, Victor A. (Denise) Vachon, of Catonsville, MD; one daughter, Andrea (Tom) Hyde of Menlo Park, CA; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is predeceased by one son, Daniel B. (Meridith) Vachon and one sister, Susan Stegmeier.

The family will receive friends at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street Annapolis, MD 21401 on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 9 to 11 AM. Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 11 AM. A Reception will follow from 11:30 am to 1:30 PM. Interment on Monday, August 8, 2022 at 2:30 PM in Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville.
