Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 2:00 pm, funeral at 2:00 pm at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary with the Rev. Dr. Tony McCain officiating. Burial will follow at Edgemont Cemetery. Mrs Matthews died Saturday April 12th at Advent Health Redmond Regional Hospital in Rome Ga.
She leaves behind her son, Steve Matthews of Gadsden Alabama, daughter Cindy Acker and husband Robert of Spring Garden AL; son Phil Matthews and wife Betty of Anniston Al; daughter Tammy Powell and husband Frank of Trussville AL; and son Todd Matthews and wife Sonya of Duncanville AL; Grandchildren Kenny Kirk (Brooke), Josh Kirk (Beth), Robby Acker, Jeanie Johnson, Cary Tidmu (Conner), Adrienne Harper (Justin), Andee Renshaw (Blake), Eric Matthews (Brandy), Gage Matthews (Sabrina); Great Grandchildren Quinton Kirk, Brady Kirk, Averie Kirk, Jackson Renshaw, Burklee Renshaw, Emaline Matthews, Ethan Miller, Leighton Matthews, Eric Todd Matthews III, and Kaden Matthews.
Mrs. Matthews is preceded in death by her parents, Foster and Girtrude Acker and her siblings Leroy Acker, Charles Acker, Tommy Acker and William K. Matthews.
Pallbearers will be Kenny and Josh Kirk, Robby Acker, Eric and Gage Matthews.
Mrs. Matthews loved the outdoors and was an avid vegetable and flower gardner. She had grown Dawn Redwood Trees from 12 inches to 70 feet. She loved the Redwood Tree and had numerous in her yard. She worked at Southern Tool in Oxford where she had many devoted friends that she thought highly of. She had five children that loved and appreciated her for all that she taught them. She loved her family and cooked many delicious meals over her lifetime. Some of her grandchildren still talk of her cube steak and gravy that she made in a pressure cooker, spaghetti and stewed potatoes and many more dishes. Mrs. Matthews and two special friends, Ann Jones and Ruth Williams that she loved to visit and they visited her.
Mrs. Matthews also had a unique friend Pam Freeman a neighbor that watched over her in her latter years, videoed her in her yard working and sent it to her children. Pam is very special to Mama and her children.
