Mr. McKerley grew up in Wellington where he was raised at Mt. View Baptist Church and also
chose to raise his daughter. David was a 1962 graduate of Alexandria and a Valley Cub through
and through. A 1967 alum of Jacksonville State University and where he met his beloved wife.
Mr. McKerley began his career working for the GAO and then served as a revenue examiner for
the Alabama State Department of Revenue for 32 years until retiring.
Currently, Mr. McKerley was a devoted member and deacon of Post Oak Springs Baptist Church
and had served there for nearly 30 years. Mr. McKerley also served 32 years as an active
Gideon which included a role as an officer, until health dictated otherwise.
David McKerley was a kind, patient and loving man with a gentle spirit. He loved his family and
his church but most importantly he loved God; he gave the absolute best hugs and always had
a delightful smile on his face that made his blue eyes twinkle.
Early in life David McKerley had hidden in his heart the scripture of Joshua 24:15 which reads
as follows: “Choose you this day whom you will serve…As for me and my house we will serve
the Lord” and he lived his life accordingly.
To say he will be missed is an understatement but his family take comfort in the knowledge that
he now resides in His Father’s house.
