She was born Mae Helen Johnson on March 30, 1937 to Edgar (Ed) and Bessie (Myrl) Johnson, in Clay County in Alabama. She is the second born, after her only brother who was born and passed in April, 1936. She was followed by two sisters, Bonnie Jewell and Catherine Dorothy. She was a young bride marring Landon Browning, Sr the day before her 21st birthday. She had five children, Sherry, Landon Jr, Robert, Terry and Kenneth. Their union ended, but she continued to care for her children and got a job working for the school system. She learned to drive later in life which thrilled her children. She met the love of her life, Harvey McCoy, a career truck driver, whom she married in 1970. They added to their family, two girls, Nikki and Dawn. They had a blended family with everyone joining as one large family. That was her greatest joy that they all accepted each other and everyone became a large loving family.
She was resilient. She was a caregiver to her eldest daughter, Sherry, who has special needs. She took care of her husband, Harvey, as his health failed and he passed. She lost her sister at a young age due to complication of heart surgery, as well as her mother, who never recovered from her heart surgery. She lost her oldest son, Landon, Jr, to a stroke a few years ago. She herself has had several heart surgeries that God had blessed her to recover from and enjoy more years with her family. She agreed to treatments for her cancer because of that love and she wanted to be with her family as long as she could.
One of her greatest joys was her 80th birthday in 2017, where she had all her children and most of her grandchildren. She has always had the love of all her children which called her multiple times a day. She loved each one.
She is survived by her daughters, Sherry Browning, Nicole Zackery, Dawn Winslett (Terry), Karla Browning (Daughter-in-law); son, Robert Browning (Becki), Terry Browning (Brenda) and Ken Browning, Rodney Zackery (Son-in-law) and sister, Bonnie Booth (Taylor). She had eleven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers are Shane McCoy, Brandon Compton, Jacob Browning, Robert Browning, Del Rhoden and Micah Browning.
