Alexandria – Graveside services for Mr. Joe Wilkerson Jr., 86 of Alexandria will be Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery with Jim Schroth officiating. Burial following at Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00p.m. until service time at Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
Mr. Wilkerson passed away October 29, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Wilkerson is survived by his wife, Rosena A Wilkerson; daughter, Vickie (Tom) Rivers; sons Tommy Joe and John Shane Wilkerson; son-in-law, Brad Ladner; brother, Donzell Wilkerson; grandchildren, Shana Wilborn Reed, Brittney Brooke Wilkerson, Chas Wilkerson, Eric Wilkerson, Colton Wilborn, Ashley Smith, Chris Wilkerson, Will Rivers, and Caleb Ladner; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Colton Wilborn, David Reed, Brad Ladner, Brittney Brooke Wilkerson, Jonathan Latham, and Rev. Oliver Murray.
Mr. Wilkerson was a native of Albertville and lifelong resident of Alexandria; he was retired from Anniston Army Depot. He served in World War II Company A315 Infinity Regiment. During his enlistment he received the following medals: two Purple Hearts, WW II Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two bronze stars, and Good Conduct Medal. He was an amateur artist and painted many pictures of scenery, landscapes and flowers. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Wilkerson is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mattie Wilkerson; daughter, Leesa G. Ladner; grand-daughter, Tasha LeAnn Clay.
