

Larry was born in Etowah County, AL on March 29, 1946 and passed away on February 19, 2026. He and his wife moved to Oxford, AL in 1968, where he stayed until his passing.
He began his career as a machinist at Southern Tool & Dye, later moving to the Anniston Army Depot. He retired there as a Quality Inspector.
Larry was an avid penny collector and completed many series of coins. He was a very talented artist drawing and painting several works. His attention to detail in his art was duly noted. His artistic abilities has been carried down to his children and grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn “Nita” Griffey; his parents James D. and Flora Gray Griffey, and brothers, Harold and Paul Griffey.
His survivors include daughters Vickie Smith (Martin) and Cindie Cruz (Art); grandsons Shawn Shaddix (April), Rob Rayborn (Amber), and Matt Cruz; granddaughters Adrienne Rayborn, Brittney Brooks, Alisha Shatto (Ryan), and Brittany Kelly; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild arriving soon; brother Perry (Faye) Griffey, and sisters Helen (Thomas) Bates and Janie (McKay) Lassiter, and sister-in-law Zeffrie Griffey; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Larry was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Oxford, AL, where he served in several roles, assisting where needed. He was not afraid to tell others about Jesus and what God had done in his life!

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
For those that knew Larry, he was a good man of faith, he loved his family dearly, and he cherished those he kept close to his heart!
