Randy was born in Calhoun County, Alabama and went to Oxford High School where he played football. He joined the Navy after high school and served for 9 years. Later, Randy graduated from Southern Illinois University with a BS in aviation management, and he spent most of his career working for the Federal Aviation Administration from which he retired in 2012.
Randy lived a life full of special moments. He loved being called “Pawpaw”; he loved Alabama football and fresh oysters, and he loved life’s sweet pleasures like candied apples and marshmallow peeps. Most importantly, Randy loved the Lord, and his family takes comfort in the knowledge that he “fought the good fight” and is now with his Heavenly Father.
Randy was preceded to heaven by his baby daughter, Kelly and his parents Arnold and Louise Brooks. Left to remember him with much love is wife Carol Brooks, his daughter Emily Surrett (Jimmy), his daughter by marriage, Kari Matteson (Andy), his grandchildren Joshua and Jenna Surrett and Rylee and Shelby Matteson, and his brother Dennis Brooks (Becky). He is also survived by many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation for family will begin at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 20th at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary. Open visitation will begin at 10:30 with a service at 11:30 followed by burial at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family would like to invite you to join them for a time of gathering and fellowship at Hillcrest Baptist Church in the choir suite immediately following the graveside service. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
