
As a young child, Robert was a talented guitarist and singer who performed on local radio and at Ft. McClellan for the troops.
Mr. Champion was a 1953 graduate of Anniston High School where he was a member of the Varsity Baseball team and a Band Member.
Mr. Champion was also a veteran of the United States Army, 7th Calvary Third Division. He was a graduate of Jefferson State Community College. He was retired as a Claims Authorizer for the Social Security Administration.
Mr. Champion is survived by his wife of fifty years Marcia Lewis Champion; his daughter Karen Champion Taylor (Craig) of Atlanta, Georgia and his son Robert (Bo) Champion Jr. of Anniston, as well as two grandchildren whom he loved with all his heart, Elizabeth Jeanne Taylor and Jacob Robert Champion. He is also survived by his sister Imogene McClellan of Memphis, Tennessee and his brother Jerre Patrick Champion of Anniston.
Honorary pallbearers will be his brother-in-law Les Lewis of Birmingham, as well as Timothy Burgess and Bill Pol of Anniston.
Funeral services for Mr. Champion will be Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at Gray Brown Service Mortuary Chapel with Rev. David Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral Home.
