

Susan Louise Harris Brooks, age 87, went to be with the Lord on April 25, 2018. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Golden Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Roland Brown and Dr. Randy Howell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1pm until service time at the church. Burial will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her two sons, Randy Lugene Brooks (Carol) of Oxford, AL and Dennis Arnold Brooks (Becky) of Cropwell, AL; three granddaughters Emily Surrett (Jimmy), Natalie Geno and Kari Matteson (Andy); one grandson Jake Walker; and six great-grandchildren; three sisters Sarah Shephard (Harold), Mary Gayton and Jean Cox (Bobby); one brother Ray Harris (Linda) and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold L. Brooks; a granddaughter Kelly Brooks; parents Olen and Florida Harris; brothers Leland Harris and Chester Harris; sisters Clealis Prestridge and Christine Glenn.
Pallbearers will be nephews of the family. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Brooks' Sunday School classes from both Coldwater Baptist Church and Golden Springs Baptist Church, her fellow Pink Ladies, and her fellow domino players.
Mrs. Brooks was a Clay County native and lived in Calhoun County for seventy years. She was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church for 11 years, Coldwater Baptist Church for 44 years, and Golden Springs Baptist Church for the past 19 years. She was very active in these churches as a Sunday School teacher, Training Union Director, Bible School worker and WMU member.
She retired from RMC after 17 years and volunteered as a Pink Lady at RMC for the past 12 years. She loved helping people and staying busy. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, crocheting, and baking. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to Golden Springs Baptist Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
